Rash/hives are all over- lierally from head to toe. Lips were swollen and had bumps around them for 2 days but swelling decreased with Benadryl. Bumps have turned into tiny pustules. Hives on my face are going down and turning into tiny pustules. This flu was not a very bad flu but the after effect with this rash and the tiredness is terrible.

Called doc and was told to buy benadyral, tried that for 2 weeks, with no relief. Finally could not stand the itching any longer went to see doc and was prescibed prednesone (3 tabs once a day for 7 days worked good, than 1 tab for the next 7 days and they came back, but not as bad. Now I’m finished with the course of prednisone and everyday they get worse. Made another appointment for next week.

How long did the rash last?
5 weeks, so far, and going crazy!

What worked best for you for overall treatment of the flu?Rest, fluids etc. The flu was nothing compared to these hives!!!

My doc says he is seeing a lot of hives following the swine flu and he confirmed that what I had was the swine flu and not the seasonal flu. I have no allergies, stopped meds I regularly take, just in case I had developed an allergy, use the same laundry, body and dishsoap, lotions etc. so I know this is from the flu! My husband had it first and never got the hives, but he did get the seasonal flu shot. I mainly get them on the more tender parts of the body (back of legs, behind the knees, ankles, inner thighs, inner wrists and arms, buttocks, lower back etc; heat really makes it worse. I live in a cold climate so I spend lots of time outside freezing just to get a little relief…Brrrrrrrr, no fun!!!

They came back again last night but fewer than before.

I got sick a day or two after the baby — my symptoms were body aches, sick stomach and fatigue… just last night, a couple days after my baby had developed hives — my whole body exploded in horrible itchy rashy hives. All I had taken was some regular motrin for pain.

This is my second day with the hives and I am taking benedryl and using cortisone cream.

Neither one of us got the flu vaccine.

I am 28 years old and the last time I had hives was 8 years ago. This definitely cannot be a coincidence. There is a flu bug specifically causing hives going around.

Fever broke-still have flu symptoms, but temp normal and now at three weeks and still have rash on my back-looking up shingles when I found this site.
