We hate Herons. Nothing about them is good, they’re on the menu nowhere.
Crack of dawn and I can see a great big heron standing still by our lake. These effn birds eat 10 pounds of fish a day so it’s always a constant battle to chase them away.
Herons, at least our visitor was very friendly and let me get 15 feet from him where he eating yet another of my goldfish. The thought crosses my mind to grab a firearm and pop him.
The heron takes off and the 7 inch fish is flipping. I pick it up and try to revive by holding it in the water to get some water into its gills. No luck. Dead fish.
Walk a few feet and there is another giant goldfish, deader than dead. Now I don’t know how long it takes a fish to grow but these two were pretty old, and pretty to boot. My kids stocked the lake with 50 minnow sized ones 7 years ago and they’ve been doing what fish do ever since. These fish were so fat, likely getting ready to spawn.
Set my kids glove by them to give you an idea of the size of his meal. No doubt the heron will be back for breakfast.
Watching the earthquakes in Japan and following tsunami happen in near real time was to say the least, heart wrenching. Further threats from aftershocks, nuclear power plant meltdowns, radiation poisoning, poor weather conditions, power outages, and a lack of basic supplies only compound the magnitude of the crisis. It has taken us days to absorb the magnitude of another 9.0M earthquake. What more could we say that others have expressed so eloquently? As reports began with a 100 dead, we immediately knew these numbers were destined to rise with new reports nearing 10,000 people dead and bodies lining shorelines and buried in the mud.
The cause of the die-off is nearly always decaying algae. Although the oceans are awash in algae, these microscopic organisms bloom when fed by nutrients such as fertilizers and human and animal waste washing off the land. Stoked by such nutrients and exposed to sunlight, algae flourish and then die and sink to the bottom. Bacteria then take over, breaking down the plant matter and sucking the oxygen out of seawater. Obviously the charts reflect some increase as expected. The question lurks if an array can cause enough heating of the magnetosphere to not only record an event but, perhaps cause an event?
“We can not rule out the possibility of an explosion”, said Chief cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano on Sunday regarding Unit 3 of the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear complex. Unit 1 exploded Saturday resulting in tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of people evacuating the area. Efforts that amount to a Hail Mary Pass might as well turn to only saying Hail Mary prayers for the people of Japan and what effects a nuclear release of radiation will have; wherever the clouds may blow. As for Coronal Mass Ejections- we have seen our fair share as of late, but really nothing that should trip this kind of trigger. But, Piers Morgan with Info Wars affiliation says the massive earthquake and tsunami were triggered by massive events on the sun and that there are more to come in the next two years.

Recent reports are of 965 micro sieverts have been measured in the area surrounding the latest nuclear plant explosion with the mayor saying Tokyo has now started monitoring radiation. This is the same, “Tokyo mayor Ishihara alleges tsunami is “heavenly retribution for Japan’s greed.”

Birds and fish don’t usually just start sporadically dying; then again senior former White House officials don’t usually end up dead in landfills either.

The oil continues to flow, although BP is allegedly siphoning off some of the oil underground. BP claims 5,000 gallons per day since April 13 and finally a month later on May 20, it has been decided that the federal government will come up with its own determination of how much oil is gushing in the Gulf. Perhaps it should take its own water samples too.
The EPA gave BP it’s okay to use chemical dispersants in an effort to corral and degrade some of the oil last week. BP’s response was a pungent reminder of who is in charge, and it most certainly is not the EPA or and branch of the government. BP issued a terse reply, saying it would continue to use the controversial chemical Corexit despite the directive. BP officials believe that the leading alternative product, Sea Brat could pose a bigger risk over the long term.

Oversight by Federal Agencies- how laughable. Really, what’s one more law or promise broken by the government?
We do not have transparency from BP nor the EPA, nor do we have control over the cleanup. For heaven’s sake, some environmental group decided that throwing human hair on the slicks would help. By comparison, the death count of sea critters so far seems small. With nearly 20% of the Gulf closed to fishing, a fish kill would most likely never be documented in the open waters, only what is witnessed on shore.
It doesn’t just take a cold snap or an oil spill to close beaches. How about a birds nest? A shorebird called a tern laid a single egg in Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The result:
